Hörnli mit Ghackets und Apfelmus
A beloved Swiss comfort food: tender elbow macaroni paired with a savory minced beef sauce, traditionally served with a side of sweet applesauce for a delightful contrast.
Steps
1
Finely chop the onion and mince the garlic cloves.
2
Heat butter in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Season with half of the salt and half of the black pepper.
3
Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pan and cook until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in the tomato paste and flour and cook for another minute.
4
Pour in the beef broth, bring to a simmer, and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly. Season with the remaining black pepper.
5
Meanwhile, cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions in salted water until al dente. Drain well.
6
Serve the Hörnli with the minced beef sauce and a generous portion of applesauce on the side.
