Currywurst
A classic German street food, this dish features grilled or fried sausages smothered in a tangy, spiced curry ketchup sauce. It's simple, satisfying, and full of flavor.
Steps
Peel and finely chop the onion. Peel and mince the garlic cloves. Heat 15 ml of vegetable oil in a saucepan over medium heat, then add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté for about 3-5 minutes until softened and fragrant.
Add the ketchup, curry powder, water, sugar, salt, and black pepper to the saucepan with the sautéed aromatics. Stir well to combine all ingredients. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer and let it cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, to allow the flavors to meld. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
While the sauce simmers, heat the remaining 15 ml of vegetable oil in a large frying pan or grill pan over medium-high heat. Add the Bratwurst sausages and cook for 8-10 minutes, turning regularly, until evenly browned and cooked through.
Once cooked, remove the Bratwurst from the pan and slice them into bite-sized pieces. Arrange the sausage pieces on plates and generously spoon the warm curry ketchup sauce over them. Serve immediately, traditionally with fries or a bread roll.
